World’s First Commercial Jetpack Will Go On Sale Next Year

Ricky_Relentless_WaterSportsAfter 35 years in development, the world’s consumer jetpack, dubbed Martin Jetpack, will be on sale next year.

Next month, Australia-listed Martin Aircraft Co. will begin manufacturing its carbon-fiber, petrol-powered aircraft that can reach heights of 3,000 feet and speeds up to 46 miles per hour.

The machine was invented in New Zealand by Glenn Martin in 1980s. By 1986, Martin had built a prototype of his jetpack in his garage. He wanted to make a device that could lift a solidly built guy and then stay airborne for as longer as possible.

Martin Aircraft Co. has signed preliminary agreements with several companies, including Dubai Civil Defense department. More »

Leonardo DiCaprio, an actor and environmentalist, 41, took a private jet twice this week. He flew 8,000 miles to pick up an environmental award in New York by taking a private plane from Cannes, before flying straight back to France on another jet for a model-packed fund-raiser gala in Antibes, about eight miles from Cannes. Gateway (Greenwich Automated Transport Environment) is offering the chance for people to take part in the UK’s first public driverless car trial. Authorities in the city of Augsburg have installed traffic lights in the sidewalks for all those who walk along while staring at their screens. The sidewalk signals have been placed near a couple of tram stops. The floor-level traffic lights flash red when a tram is approaching and warn smartphone users when they’re about to walk into the path of a train.

The red 1981 Ferrari 308 GTSi was stolen on July 19, 1987 from a Newport Beach car lot. The original owner is a man from Orange County, Calif. and now wishes to remain anonymous. He had expressed interest in buying back the car.

When three decades ago, the man discovered his car had gone missing, he reported the car stolen and was compensated by his insurance company. More »
