LEGO Built a Life Size, Drivable Bugatti Chiron from over a Million Technic Elements

First ever life-size and drivable Lego Bugatti Chiron is a pioneering piece of engineering and design with 5.3 horsepower and a top speed of 12 miles per hour.
Lego built a life-sized working replica of a $2.6 million Bugatti Chiron, the toy brick company announced in a statement on Thursday.

The Bugatti model was first test-driven in June and made its public debut on Thursday at the Grand Prix Formula 1 event in Monza, Italy. The car was designed by the same Czech team that specializes in creations for Legoland attractions.

The vehicle was built by hand, each Lego piece was connected to the next without the aid of any glue, stressed the company. The team used 339 types of Lego Technic pieces, and some of them were put together with a special tool made out of Legos. More »

Locals Reportedly are Frustrated with Alphabet’s Self-Driving Cars

Alphabet’s self-driving cars are reportedly annoying their neighbors in Arizona, where Waymo has been testing its vehicles for the last year.

More than a dozen locals told they hated the cars, which often struggle to cross a T-intersection near the company’s office.

One woman said that she almost hit one of the company’s minivans because it suddenly stopped while trying to make a right turn, while another man said that he gets so frustrated waiting for the cars to cross the intersection that he has illegally driven around them.

Waymo Teams Up with Walmart to Launch Pilot Program

Waymo and Walmart have launched a pilot program to ferry customers to the store.
Walmart is partnering with Waymo, a self-driving technology company and formerly known as Google’s self-driving car project to take the online grocery delivery to a new level: they will shuttle consumers to and from stores in self-driving cars.
Waymo is starting the program this week and customers will be able to use its self-driving car service to pick up groceries at Walmart stores. More »

China to Track Every Driver with Mandatory RFID Chips

China started tracking the movements of all new vehicles. The government says it would help track congestion and public security, but there are some concerns that it is likely to become another surveillance tool.

The program that the Chinese government started will make it possible to track citizens’ cars using RFID chips installed on windshields which will help study and manage traffic, pollution, and public security. The program started rolling out on July 1st and will be voluntary at first but mandatory for new vehicles in 2019.

By forcing drivers to have chips installed on their vehicles, China’s Ministry of Public Security, and the ministry’s Traffic Management Research Institute will also help bolster the domestic chip industry. More »

The Summon parking feature is now available in Model 3, according to a tweet from Tesla,

After months of waiting, Model 3 gets the Summon parking feature, which has been available on the other Teslas for a while.

The feature allows the car to park autonomously in tight spaces where the doors can’t be opened and without anyone in the car, which is a huge help when you have a tiny garage or need to park next to a wall. If programmed, the Summon parking feature can even operate the garage door as it parks, or when it is called out of its parking spot by the owner. More »

Kroger is Testing Driverless Grocery Delivery Cars

Kroger is testing using driverless vehicles to deliver groceries, the supermarket chain announced last week.
Kroger, the giant supermarket chain based in Cincinnati, is partnering with autonomous car company Nuro to launch a test of grocery delivery by driverless vehicles.
Nuro is a Silicon Valley tech company that has developed a small, self-driving vehicle specifically for delivery. Customers in the pilot program will be able to place their delivery orders through Kroger’s ordering system ClickList and Nuro’s application.
Kroger has made a series of investments over the past few months to expand its digital and online delivery business. The company bought meal kit company Home Chef and announced its plans to work with British online grocer Ocado in order to build automated warehouses throughout the U.S. It also bought meal kit company Home Chef. A Tesla running on autopilot crashed into a parked police car in Laguna Beach on Tuesday.

A Tesla sedan crashed into a parked police car in Laguna Beach, California on Tuesday, while using Autopilot resulting in “minor injuries” to the driver. The incident added to a fast-growing list of similar accidents where autopilot was involved. Fortunately, the officer in charge of the police car at the time of the crash was not inside the vehicle and thus avoided being injured.

The first full trailer of the long-awaited Queen and Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, has been released onto the internet. Starring Mr. Robot’s Rami Malek as Mercury, the band’s extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who died in 1991. A short teaser on Queen’s official Youtube channel was released on Monday.

Less than two months after a Tesla Model X got in fire in Mountain View, CA while on autopilot mode and its driver died, Tesla tragedy has struck again.

The driver of a Model S and one of his passengers died after the vehicle was involved in a single-car crash in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Tuesday evening.

Pentagon to Get Self-Driving Vehicles First

Pentagon is likely to beat Uber and Telsa in the race over self-driving vehicles.

The Pentagon could beat the big competitors in the race to develop self-driving vehicles such as autonomous tanks to deliver food and fuel on the battlefield.

Michael Griffin, the undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, said at a hearing on Capitol Hill this month that the U.S. Department of Defense is going to make self-driving vehicles for the needs of the Army before “we’ll have self-driving cars on the streets.”
