Aston Martin has finally unveiled its AM-RB 001 hypercar.
Aston Martin is teaming up with Red Bull Racing Formula One to buld a revolutionary model that may become the world’s fastest car.
The project has been headed up by Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer and dominant F1 technical director of the past decade, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin EVP and chief creative officer, and David King, Aston Martin’s vice president and chief special operations officer. The AM-RB 001 was unveiled at the iconic Aston Martin’s Gaydon facility in the U.K. only a few days ago.
The carmaker hasn’t settled on final production numbers but the AM-RB 001 will probably be limited between 99 to 150 road cars and according to Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer they will be “very very expensive”. The car is expected to cost somewhere between $2,6m to $4m. The price depends on the model’s selected options and includes a training course to introduce drivers to this class of automobile. In addition, the company will build only 25 of track versions.
An all new, high revving, mid-mounted V12 engine, naturally aspirated, will provide the power while attached to a gearbox of Newey’s design. The all-carbon fiber AM-RB 001 will deliver a 1:1 power to weight ratio. Reportedly the track version of the car will be as fast round a track as a Formula 1 car in a race trim. The vehicle is expected to go from 0 to 62 mph in just two seconds and reach top speed of 200 mph.
The car will be built at Aston Martin’s factory in Gaydon. The first prototype will begin testing in 2017 and the first deliveries are set for 2018. Wealthy customers visiting Monaco for the Formula 1 at the weekend were reportedly invited to view the new hypercar’s latest design in a secret location.
