Ford teased the fans with a video uploaded on YouTube demonstrating its new electric truck’s remarkable towing capacity.

In 2017, Ford announced that it is planning to sell an all-electric version of its best-selling F-150 pickup truck. Only a few days ago, the American automaker says it would start selling a hybrid version by 2020 and released a video demonstration that shows off the prototype’s impressive torque.

This is not a joke but a real story that happened a few days ago in Lake Worth, Florida.

A Florida guy left his Tesla Model 3 on a homeowner’s lawn for 12 hours to charge using his electricity without asking for permission and walked off in the middle of the night. The downside of driving electric vehicles is that unlike gas stations, there are not charging stations every few miles. That was the reason a man decided it was OK for him to plug his Tesla Model 3 into a random person’s electrical outlet on the outside of their home. He not only unashamedly stole someone’s electricity without the owner’s knowledge, but the intruder also decided that the other person’s lawn would be a good place to park.

Five-seater, all-electric and jet-powered air taxi makes its first test flight in Munich, Germany.

Lilium, the Munich-based startup developing a revolutionary on-demand air taxi service has unveiled its five-seater, all-electric air taxi prototype. In an announcement last week, the German startup said that its jet-powered air taxi has just completed its maiden flight.

Mercedes EQC is the first in a range of premium electric vehicles.

Mercedes showed its first fully electric SUV at an event in Stockholm this week, becoming the latest automaker to take on Tesla. Called the EQC, the sports utility vehicles has been built as the first car from “Electronic Intelligence” brand that aims to knock rival Tesla from its spot as a leader in the sector and take a lead in the fastest growing automotive market.

Volkswagen is planning to sell more electric cars in the US and wants to build a massive electric car charging network across the country.
The German automaker will spend millions of dollars on building out the country’s underdeveloped charging infrastructure. Electrify America, a VW subsidiary, has recently announced their plans to install EV charging stations at more than 100 Walmarts in 35 states by 2019. The news came a few days after Porsche, which is owned by VW Group, announced it wants to build 500 of its own EV charging stations across the country. More »

Ferrari to challenge Tesla with an electric supercar.

Ferrari claims it is building an all-electric supercar that will compete with the next-generation Tesla Roadster and the Italian carmaker will be the first company to bring an EV supercar to market.

Ferrari is challenging Tesla by jumping into the electric car space. Sergio Marchionne, Chief Executive Officer of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said on Tuesday at the Detroit auto show that the car manufacturer plans to build the first electric supercar. Daimler is planning to invest $1 billion into electric car production in its Alabama plant, the company said Thursday in a statement.
Daimler will try to take on Tesla’s Model X by making Daimler the first European company to assemble electric SUV in the U.S. as it is starting to assemble electric sport utility vehicles in its facility in Alabama.
Daimler, the parent company of luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz, announced plans to invest $1 billion to start production of plug-in autos in the U.S.
The Stuttgart-based company will use the sum to expand the 20-year-old Vance facility, in Alabama, where Mercedes already makes SUVs. More »

The largest battery factory in Europe is being built by Daimler.

Daimler, one of the few major automakers developing all-electric vehicles, begins construction on a $562 million lithium-ion battery factory in Germany, officials unveiled a few days ago. The German automaker is planning to spend $11 billion on 10 new electric models that would be brought to the market by 2022.

Mercedes-Benz manufacturer Daimler is currently producing its own battery packs through its ACCUmotive subsidiary. A few months ago, they announced an important multi-million investment in a new battery plant in Kamenz, Germany, which will assemble lithium-ion battery packs for Mercedes and Maybach vehicles, as well as energy storage batteries.

The new production facility will be environmentally conscious. Mercedes says that the factory will be carbon-dioxide neutral. The facilities will be supplied with energy from a combined heat and power plant and solar power – a photovoltaic plant in combination with stationary battery storage units. By the end of 2020, the factory will have a total of over 1,000 employees and thus today’s number will be more than doubled.

The new production facility will stretch across 262,000 feet. It is scheduled to go into operation in mid-2018- just in time for Mercedes’ first all-electric vehicle- the new ‘EQ’ SUV. In addition, the German automaker has several other electric vehicle programs, like its all-electric Urban eTruck. Daimler is also currently building 1,500 all-electric Mercedes-Benz vans for Germany’s largest independent logistic firm, Hermes.

Last week, Daimler subsidiary Mercedes-Benz Energy has entered into a partnership with Vivint Solar to Solar to sell residential storage batteries along with solar panels in California.

Major battery factories are currently under construction in other European countries: Poland, Hungary, and Sweden. However, some of these factories are actually being built by Asian giants planning to move into Europe. There are also eight battery factories under construction in China.
